I have had a very positive and enjoyable experience learning online. As the weeks and semesters passed, I became more comfortable with school and naturally developed a routine for homework and going to work.Assignments were simple to understand and there was plenty of time for me to read my lessons and get the homework done. Discussion boards would allow me to talk to my classmates and make me feel like I belong, and that we are all in this together. While semester projects were the most difficult assignments, they have also given me the most pride and joy.

I thoroughly enjoyed the online OILS program. I took courses that interested me, and many of the skills I had gained have already been applied to my work. I loved completing this program online: UNM’s online program allowed me to work full-time while attending school. During my time taking classes, I had two kids. I am very fortunate that I was able to continue going to school with little time off. I am already planning on returning back for a second graduate degree!

“While the success of online courses certainly depends on a solid syllabus and course design—as well as support from the instructor—student initiative is crucial. They need the discipline to regularly review the syllabus, stay on top of deadlines, attend office hours, and ask questions whenever you are unsure; there is no such thing as a stupid question—the only foolish thing is not to ask. Online courses are no walk in the park, but success is achievable. ”
“Almost all of my students who are learning online are also working full time. Online courses give students the ability to move at their own pace transforming the classroom into the spaces of their everyday lives off campus. My biggest tip for student success is to attend office hours at least once a semester! It might feel awkward to start, but I guarantee just a single meeting over Zoom with your professor will help you both feel more connected and invested in your learning."
